The intention of "Prepare for Week 1" is to review the basic algebra fundamentals and to learn how to use your calculator.

To prepare for the first class, please review the algebra fundamentals and understand how to use your calculator.  A good understanding of algebra is very helpful. 

One way to review algebra fundamentals is provided by the book's author.  The book provides an algebra review titled Chapter R.  Chapter R and the answers to the problems can be found at:  http://college.cengage.com/mathematics/aufmann/excursions/2e/resources/ara.html
Please make sure you are comfortable with the content in Chapter R before the week 1 class .
